PSALM 37
How many of us have read Psalm 37 and never noticed what we should do and what God does? To make for easy reading, I have highlighted what we should do in RED and what God does in BLUE
In v3 we read: Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
In v4 we read: Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
In v5 we read: Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.
In v7 we read: Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
In v8 we read: Cease from anger and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
In v9 we read: For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
In v11 we read: But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
In v17 we read: For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.
In v18 we read: The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.
In v23 we read: The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and He delighteth in his way.
In v26 we read: He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and His seed is blessed.
In v27 we read: Depart from evil and do good; and dwell for evermore.
In v34 we read: Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and He shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
Committing ourselves to the Lord means resting in Him.
Our burdens become His, and we rest secure in the knowledge that He will carry our burdens for us. Too often we ask Him to do this, and then we promptly take them back again!
We forget that it is God’s will that we cast our cares on Him.
It is God’s will that I should cast
On Him my care each day.
He also bids me not to cast
My confidence away.
But oh, I am so foolish
That when taken unawares,
I cast away my confidence
And carry all my cares.

Finally, notice how many times we are told that our strength is IN THE LORD!
Trust in the Lord (v3)
Delight in the Lord (v4)
Commit your way to the Lord (v5)
Rest in the Lord (v7a)
Wait patiently for Him (v7b)
