PadkosWILL THIS BE THE LAST KNOCK?

Revelation 3:20

Behold I stand at the door and knock: If any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup (eat/share) with him, and he with Me. KJV

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with Me. NIV

The old year has passed, and we are well into the New Year. What will it bring? Our verse today reminds us that Jesus is still offering to come in if we open the door and let Him in. For those of us who have let Jesus into our lives, it is a reminder of just how patient God is and has been. For those who have not answered the knock, perhaps this will be the year that you do. Perhaps this will be the last year that He will knock.

A few interesting things about this verse worth pondering over:

  • You are at home with your door shut.
  • Jesus is outside standing at the door.
  • Jesus is the one who is doing the knocking, not you.
  • Do you hear the knock?
  • Have you got up and approached the door?
  • Have you opened the door to see who is there?
  • Have you asked Him to come in?
  • Have you invited Him to sup with you?

I normally dislike pictures which portray our Saviour, but in this particular instance I am going to make an exception because there are a few things about this picture which are worth mentioning:

  1. It shows Jesus knocking on a door.
  2. Note that He is standing on the outside.
  3. There is a light on inside the house, indicating that someone is home.
  4. Note that there is no door handle on the outside.
  5. Note that the only way for the door to be opened is for the person, who is at home, to open the door from the inside.
  6. The late hour, at night, is significant, because the hour is at hand when those who hear His knock should listen, open and receive Him as Saviour, before it is too late.

Without trying to sound like an alarmist, consider the following:

  • This could be the last year that He stands and knocks.
  • As this verse is in the last book of the Bible, it is telling you something.
  • It could be that this year will be your last chance to open the door.
  • Perhaps you have kept Him outside of your life for far too long.
  • God loves you and wants you to receive Jesus as your Saviour.
  • He is coming soon to take those who have opened the door to be with Him in Heaven.
  • Heaven is His home and Heaven could be your home too.

My prayer is that you will hear His knock

and that you will open the door of your heart and let Him in.

What other choice have you got?
