HAVE YOU SETTLED THE QUESTION?

We are confident, I say, and willing to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:8

Death is not a subject that many people like to dwell on mainly because it brings with it the finality of life. There is no going back once a person leaves this earth and enters eternity. Death puts an end to the plans, aspirations and goals a person had whilst alive on earth, and those left behind are at a loss to know what to say or do to comfort those who are grief-stricken.

For those who have put their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ there is an altogether different picture. In our verse of Scripture we have the Apostle Paul telling us that he is of good hope, confident even, in view of what lies before him. He would rather be in Heaven with the Lord than be alive here on earth! In v6 of the same chapter he tells us whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord.

It is true that whilst most people do not want to die, there are those who have had a glimpse of what Heaven might be like together with a yearning to be with Jesus, and therefore are confident that to be absent from the body will mean they are present with the Lord.

The best this world has to offer pales into obscurity and nothingness when compared with what is offered by God to those who love Him.

• Every dark day should be brightened by the prospect of Heaven.
• Every single burden we have should be lightened by the wonderful promise of what lies ahead.
