LIFE’S CLOCK

Hebrews 9:27

It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. KJV

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment. NIV

Many believe that when you die, everything concerning your life comes to an end. Your body is placed in a coffin and then placed in the ground and the life that was once there, is finished. Be warned, this is NOT what the Bible tells us!

There are FIVE parts to this verse of Scripture:

  1. It is appointed: Death is unavoidable. Most people live as though death is unlikely and nothing to be concerned about. As one writer put it: we have birth control but no death control. Whether we like it or not, we each have an appointment with death sooner or later.
  2. unto men: When the Bible speaks of men or mankind, it embraces both male and female, in other words, all of humankind. There is no gender bias because it means everybody, without exception.
  3. once to die: You only die once. In other words, you don’t get a second chance.
It is a one-off! Many think this is a time to live recklessly. You only live once so enjoy it to the full and make the most of it! Sadly, there are those who regret taking this path to heart. Those who believe in re-incarnation deny the injunction: you must be born again, and yet this is exactly what Jesus told all who would listen.
He made it clear that rebirth was NOT physical but spiritual.
  4. and after this: Clearly indicating that Death is NOT the end! The Bible tells us it is NOT permanent, there is something after death. There is something that lies ahead. Beyond death there lies an inheritance that is everlasting … reserved in Heaven!
  5. the Judgment: Death is Destiny’s Door. It is your door! There is no second chance. Those who are IN CHRIST need not fear.

Romans 8:1

There is no condemnation to those who are IN Christ Jesus. KJV

There is now no condemnation for those who are IN Christ Jesus. NIV

Those who are not, have everything to fear.
