THE SEVEN SAYINGS OF THE CROSS
There are no words in the English language, or any other language for that matter, that are even remotely adequate in describing the most awful act of senseless barbarity and utter stupidity ever known to man.
To think that man, in all his arrogance and self importance, took the Creator of Heaven and Earth and nailed Him to a Cross and left Him there to die, even casting lots for His left behind clothing.
The following 7 sayings of our Saviour indicate to us in no uncertain terms the Height, Breadth and Depth of Love Jesus has for us, and even for those who hate Him.
1. Then said Jesus, Father forgive them for they know not what they do.
Luke 23:34
-
Words that only the Saviour can utter: Father Forgive them!
2. And he said unto Jesus, Lord remember me when Thou comest into Thy Kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Luke 23:42-43
-
Words that only the Saviour can utter: Offering Salvation even in the last minutes of life!
3. Now there stood by the Cross of Jesus His Mother…. When Jesus therefore saw His Mother, and the disciple standing by, whom He loved, He saith unto His Mother, Woman behold thy Son! Then saith He to the disciple, Behold thy Mother!
John 19: 25-26
-
Words that only the Saviour can utter: The Affection for those He loved!
4. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God my God, why have Thou forsaken me?
Matthew 27:46
-
Words that only the Saviour can utter: The cry of Anguish!
5. Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith I thirst.
John 19:28
-
Words that only the Saviour can utter: The Word of Suffering!
6. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished.
John 19:30
-
Words that only the Saviour can utter: The Word of Victory!
7. And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, He said, Father, into Thy hands I commend my Spirit: and having said thus, He gave up His Spirit.
Luke 23:46
-
Words that only the Saviour can utter: Words of Contentment!
If ever you feel that your daily grind and trials are too hard to bare, remember Jesus! and remember what He did for us.
All praise and Glory to His precious Name.
A Name above every name!
