EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW
|
Philippians 2:9-11 |
|
|
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father. KJV |
Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. NIV |
These are very powerful words and contain an awesome message:
The only way up is down!
Everyone will bow down to Jesus. It is not a matter of if we want to, or if we are willing, we will be compelled to, we will be required to. Those who have not bent the knee during His age of Grace will be overwhelmed and defeated in the age of His judgment. These words are directed at all of us. You and I will be obliged to bow down to the Saviour.
- Imagine if you like, the fear and trembling of those who have spent their whole lives ignoring the message of Salvation and living as if Christ does not exist, attending church for the occasional wedding or funeral and in-between giving no thought to what Jesus did for us on the Cross at Calvary.
- Imagine if you like the excuses that will pour from the mouths of those who have made a habit of mocking people who happen to believe the Bible is the Word of God when they come face to face with the very Person whom they have been mocking.
- Imagine if you like the pleading for mercy of those who have made jokes about Christ and have used His Holy name as an expletive.
- Imagine if you like the utter desolation and helplessness of those who could not even be bothered to read the Workshop Manual of Life given to us by God Himself.
- Imagine if you like the despair and anguish of those who could have taken refuge by trusting and believing the message of the Gospel during their lifetime and did not.
The Scriptures tell us that:
| · They are without excuse. | · Every knee shall bow. |
| · Every mouth will be stopped. | · Every eye will see Him. |
| · Every eye will see the One who gave His life so that we may live. | |
You have to ask yourself, in all honesty: How can we neglect so great a Salvation?
I don’t know about you but reading these verses of Scripture makes me want to spread the Gospel with even more determination, it makes me realise the awful reality of disobedience to the Word of God. We are surrounded by people, who are heading for a dreadful eternity and we need to earnestly pray for their Salvation. We need to be led by the Holy Spirit to witness to them before it is too late. May God help us take the Gospel to those in dire need of it from today onwards, until Jesus comes!
