HOW MUCH?

1 Corinthians 6:20

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. KJV

You were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies. NIV

I wonder how many of us are proud to be a Christian, ready to stand up and be counted? Are there times when you would rather keep quiet and shy away from professing your faith to others for fear of being mocked and scorned? Do you fear being the odd one out in a group of people?

A Christian should identify himself or herself with what is right and proper when the moral behaviour of those whose company you are in is questionable or when the jokes are crude and when the Lord’s Holy Name is being used frequently in general conversation. These are but a few of the examples when a believer should disassociate himself from the company he is in, no matter how unpopular or ridiculed they become.

Romans 1:16

For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto Salvation to every one that believeth. KJV

For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God that brings Salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. NIV

Do we fully appreciate the example Jesus set for us? Do we realise what it cost Him to redeem us from our sins? When they arrested Him, they asked if He was Jesus. He made no attempt to evade the question.

John 18:5

I am He. KJV

I am He. NIV

This showed the depth of His courage and obedience to the will of God. He knew too well what humiliation and suffering lay in store for Him.

Let us all take courage from how Jesus reacted and from what He did for us on the Cross of Calvary, and if we really need to ask the question: How Much? we need to consider that we have been bought with a price. A price so great that all we can do is bend the knee and give thanks as we worship Him for providing us with so great a Salvation.

May God grant you the courage to make a stand for Jesus day by day as you endeavour to live for Him.
