THIS IS WHAT I DID –
THIS IS WHAT JESUS DID
At GETHSEMANE He took the CUP that I had filled.
At GABBATHA He took the THORNS that I had tilled.
At GOLGOTHA He took the CROSS that I had willed.
To my shame, my life breathed one theme throughout its days:
Not Thy will, but mine be done.
To His glory HIS LIFE had breathed one theme throughout His days:
Not My will but Thine be done.
And now!
THE CUP OF GETHSEMANE
THE CROWN OF GABBATHA
THE CROSS OF GOLGOTHA
All preached the same message, loud and clear:
THE PRICE OF SELF-WILL IS SUFFERING.
Jesus gave His life for all of mankind!
For three hours the earth was covered in darkness.
The Father’s delight was now abandoned.
The perfect Man was cut off from the Father.
The cry from the lips of Jesus will echo for eternity:
My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?
The answer lies in the fact that God demands punishment for sin. He must punish sin wherever it is found. To overlook sin is impossible for God.
Although Jesus had no sins, He gave Himself for them and took on the responsibility for them and paid the penalty for them.
The debt we owe was charged to His account. He willingly paid it for us!
So now when there is sin, God looks down and sees His only Son who was the sin bearer and He sees our sins laid on His precious and beloved Son. Jesus was forsaken by His Father so that we might never be forsaken.
