FELLOWSHIP

Psalm 122:3

Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together. KJV

Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted together. NIV

Acts 2:44

And all that believed were together, and had all things in common. KJV

All the believers were together and had everything in common. NIV

For those whose faith was steadfast and rooted in God, Jerusalem was the place to go to. The feast in Jerusalem meant going to the temple to worship. It was the place God had authorised for His people to give thanks, and those who attended believed and were together and had all things in common.

Sadly today, in many Church Groups where the communion of Saints is made much of, souls are often counted as members of their communion whose only involvement is a three in a lifetime experience.

  1. Once as an infant – they are carried in.
  2. Once as a candidate for marriage – they walk in.
  3. And once as a corpse – they are carried out.

They have nothing to do with Fellowship and Faith, and nothing to do with Communion or Christ. FELLOWSHIP can be described as FELLOWS IN A SHIP all in harmony with one purpose, pulling together in unity.

Row, row, row the boat, gently down the stream,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is like a dream.

This is fellowship in fantasy, but tragically it is the kind of fellowship that is being experienced in many places where people call themselves Christians. There is nothing casual and carefree about true fellowship, for fellowship is caring and caring is costly.

  • Fellowship is rowing UPSTREAM and requires constant effort.
  • Fellowship is pulling against the mainstream of worldliness.
  • Fellowship cuts across the cross currents of self-interest.
  • Fellowship is pulling together and uniformly, or we’ll go in circles!
  • Fellowship is having communication and communion with our Saviour Jesus Christ.

I can think of nothing I would rather do than that, can you?
