THE POWER
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome ….. And when they looked they saw that the stone was rolled away; for it was great.
Mark 16:1,4
Jesus Christ, declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.
Romans 1:4
We sing the chorus: Rolled away, rolled away, and the burden of my heart rolled away, because it is true and it reminds us of what Jesus did for us. The burden of sin is removed by the death and resurrection of our Saviour. The disciples may well have sung that song for that stone was a burden on their hearts. They had come to their Gilgal. That’s what the Israelites called the place where the Lord had rolled away the reproach of Egypt and they erected stones as a memorial to God’s faithfulness in leading them to the promised land.
If ever there was a display of power meant to awaken the spirits of mankind it was Jesus overcoming death. Jesus rising from the grave. Having taken upon Himself the sins of the whole world! God’s Word tells us that Jesus Christ was declared to be the Son of God with POWER by the resurrection from the dead.
Knowing this can we honestly say:
I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ for it is the POWER of God unto Salvation to everyone that believeth…
Romans 1:16
Man is so puny and so proud. It is said that someone painted on the inside of a massive new ship that was being built the following words:
Not even God could sink this ship.
It had two hulls and was declared unsinkable. It was called Titanic and sank on its maiden voyage!
Another story is told of a proud unbelieving woman who heard that all those who did not trust Christ would be raised in judgment, just like believers would be raised to life in glory, and she determined in her heart that this would not happen to her. She instructed that when she died that a huge concrete slab, several feet thick, be placed on top of her grave. Not long after she passed into eternity a tiny seed from a nearby oak tree was blown under her slab and grew and in a few short years that huge slab was not only lifted but broken in two like a wafer biscuit. God didn’t do that to teach her a lesson, she had already learned that, but it was too late. He did it to serve notice on what He thinks of human folly.
He wills not the death of any but that all should come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9
May you realise your need of the Saviour and turn to Him and accept Him into your life before it is too late.
