THE ORDER

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

2 Corinthians 6:14-17

It is very clear from our verses of Scripture that The Order from God is Separation.

We are to be separated from the world.

We are not to be joined together with those who do not believe in the Salvation offered by Christ. It is a clear instruction from God that believers should separate themselves from unbelievers. We are to be separate from the darkness of sin and idols. A Christian should not marry an unsaved person and in the business world a Christian should not go into partnership with someone who does not know the Lord as Saviour. We are not to go to places where we know the name of Jesus is mocked and ridiculed and where modern thinking has out ruled any reference to the Scriptures and a Holy and Righteous God. If you think this is being petty or unreasonable then you need to be reminded of just what the world thought of Jesus and what they did to Him. The world wanted nothing to do with Him, therefore is it any wonder then that God tells us to have nothing to do with the world?

If and when we come to the place where we recognise the awfulness of sin and realise that our precious Saviour took upon Himself the penalty for our sins, which we rightfully should have paid ourselves, then and only then will we have some measure of how utterly Holy God is and how much He loves us!

Note the word WHAT in our verses:

  1. What fellowship? v14
  2. What communion? v14
  3. What concord? (harmony) v15
  4. What part? v15
  5. What agreement? v16

Every one of these questions demands an answer from us, and if we are honest with ourselves, only one word will suffice:

NONE!

May I suggest that you read verses 14-16 again to remind yourself just what it is that God is telling us and more importantly, why He is telling us.
