THE WAY

THE HIGHWAY – No decline, no deviation

2 Samuel 22:31

As for God, His way is perfect; the Word of the Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all them that trust in Him. KJV

As for God, His way is perfect: The Lord’s Word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him. NIV

Men make deviations to improve on the existing road. They do the same with their thoughts and practices, all of which affect the path they travel in life. Sadly, most of these deviations lead him further away from God.

Notice that the Scriptures tell us that God’s way is perfect.

You cannot improve on perfection.

THE HOLY WAY – No defilement, no degradation

Psalm 119:1

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. Blessed are they that keep His testimonies, and that seek Him with the whole heart. KJV

Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord. Blessed are those who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their heart. NIV

A happy person is a blessed person because their lives are conformed to the Word of the Lord. Seeking God’s will for our lives with all our hearts, keeps us in an undefiled condition. Even if we sin, there is provision for true confession and restoration.

We are to keep short accounts with the Lord!

THE HARMLESS WAY – No danger, no destruction

Matthew 10:28

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. KJV

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. NIV

2 Thessalonians 2:3

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that Day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition. KJV

Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition. NIV

We are told of many falling away and seeking after very dangerous ways. There is no doubt that disobedience to the Word of God carries with it a severe penalty. We are given an example of this in the Book of Kings:

1 Kings 13:24

And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase. KJV

As he went on his way, a lion met him on the road and killed him, and his body was left lying on the road, with both the donkey and the lion standing beside it. NIV

In this verse, we read of a disobedient prophet who failed God because HE TURNED OUT OF THE WAY and a lion destroyed him. This should be a lesson for us all:

God will not tolerate disobedience to His Holy Word.

No one is in danger if they seek after God with all their hearts.

THE HAPPY WAY – No despair, no despondency

Matthew 7:13-14

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. KJV

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. NIV

The way of the world is wide and broad, and it leads to despair and despondency. We see this displayed before us on a daily basis. The way of the Lord is happy and joyful, and the end of our time here on earth will bring with it songs of praise and everlasting delight.

No wonder the GOSPEL that puts us IN CHRIST is good news!

This oil painting, was commissioned by my parents many years ago and is a scene of their favourite place: Fish Hoek beach in Cape Town, South Africa. I dedicate todays reading to my dear Father who passed into eternity on this day in 2019.
