CHRIST IN ISAIAH

For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

 This is a wonderful description foretelling the birth of Christ, approximately 700 years before Christ was actually born.

• A Child is born – who is a Son given – this is MYSTERY.
•  The government shall be upon His shoulder – this is MAJESTY.
• And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller – this is MENTALITY.
• The Mighty God – this deals with MIGHT.
• The Everlasting Father – this deals with MERCY.
• The Prince of Peace – this deals with MERIT.

1. A Child is born: speaks of His humanity.
2. A Son is given: speaks of His deity.
3. The government shall be upon His shoulder: speaks of His reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
4. His name shall be called Wonderful: speaks of His person and work.
5. His name shall be called Counseller: speaks of His wisdom.
6. Mighty God: speaks of His omnipotence as Supreme Ruler.
7. Everlasting Father: speaks of the fact that He is the source of eternity and that He inhabits and possesses eternity.
8. The Prince of Peace: speaks of the One who is Peace, who gives us peace and who will at last bring peace to this violent and very troubled world.

Forgiveness and Peace is freely yours through the One who came to a cradle that He might go to a Cross and die there for you and me.
