HOW DID SIN ENTER?

Genesis 3:6

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. KJV

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. NIV

In our verse of Scripture, we see how sin entered the world:

  • Eve SAW that the tree was good for food.
  • This is SELF flying in the face of God’s express command: “Thou shalt not eat of it.”
  • The 1st sin was TRANSGRESSION – cutting across a clear command.
  • It is not only transgression it was REBELLION.
  • Eve SAW that it was good, pleasant and desirable.
  • Her mind was not on the WORD of God and the WILL of God.
  • Her mind was on the WORDS of Satan and the WILL of Eve.
  • If her thoughts had been right, her words could not have been wrong.
  • If she had not thought so little of the words of God, she would not have thought so much of the words of a Serpent, and she could not have sinned.
  • Eve gave her Ears to the Serpent, then her Eyes, then her Heart, Hands and Mouth.

What a contrast there is between Genesis 3 and Matthew 4, where Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil. This is a passage of Scripture worth reading. This is how sin entered the world!

It proceeded from Desire to Destruction.
