BELIEF OF THE SUPERFICIAL

John 2:23-25

Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, in the feast day, many believed in His name, when they saw the miracles which He did. But Jesus did not commit Himself unto them, because He knew all men, And needed not that any should testify of man: for He knew what was in man. KJV

Now while He was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs He was performing and believed in His name. But Jesus would not entrust Himself to them, for He knew all people. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for He knew what was in each person. NIV

There are two things about Politicians that have been said repeatedly:

  1. They never tell the truth.
  2. They will never answer the question posed to them.

They are insincere with those who voted for them in the first place, which is worrying given that the running of the country is in their hands.

Today’s verses deal with those who were artificial, or phony, having an outward display of accepting Jesus but no reality attached to that belief.

  • They were in awe of His ability to perform miracles, BUT!
  • They were not in awe of His real Person or who He really is.

They accepted Him but there was no genuineness or evidence to cement this, which is prevalent in our world today where many claim to be Christians without being truly born again. The danger that goes with this type of superficial belief is that people go through their whole lives thinking that they are alright with God when they are not, and unless they are challenged to examine just what it is they believe in, a tragedy is in store for them when they leave this life and enter the next.

My prayer is that you will be challenged to examine what you believe and that you will truly commit your life to Jesus Christ.
