BLESSED

Psalm 84:4-5,12

Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house: they will be still praising Thee. Blessed is the man whose strength is in Thee; in whose heart are the ways of them. KJV

O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in Thee. KJV

Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; they are ever praising You. Blessed are those whose strength is in You, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. NIV

Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in You. NIV

This Psalm fits the picture of a godly person longing for heaven. It starts off with how beautiful and lovely the dwelling place of God is and how his soul longs for and cries out to be with the living God. This should be the heart’s desire of all of God’s children.

Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house for we will find him Rejoicing.

Blessed is the man whose strength is in Him for we will find him Relying.

Blessed is the man that trusts in Him for we will find him Resting.

Yes indeed, I have a FRIEND, for I was a stranger and He took me in!

Rejoicing, Relying and Resting are three states that all Believers should aspire to. We should strive for them day by day. It should be our goal every minute of each waking day.

  • We Rejoice that the Blood of the Lamb has washed our sins away and that we can indeed have fellowship with our Creator.
  • We Rely on Him and have our very being in Him, and it is from Him that we have our strength to live day by day in this world. Our strength is in Him, not in ourselves.
  • We Rest and are Blessed. What more can we ask for? There is no other in whom we can put our trust.

Psalm 84:10

For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a door keeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. KJV

Better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. NIV

There are a few interesting things to note in this verse:

  • A day in God’s courts is better than a thousand somewhere else.
  • There is just no comparison.
  • Spurgeon once said that: God’s worst is better than the devil’s best.
  • There is a House and Tents to compare. The House is a permanent dwelling and the Tents are for moving. God and His promises are immovable, fixed and permanent, whereas man’s opinions and attempts at self-promotion in all its guises, are like Tents, changing like the wind, never settling, never satisfied.

We are Blessed when we dwell in His house.
We are Blessed when we obtain our strength from Him.
We are Blessed when we trust Him.
What more could we ask for?

  1. Hi Jon,
I just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying and appreciating your Padkos daily devotional readings. Mrs Ross gave me a couple of sets and I have passed one on to Pete Hannah, who is also really enjoying them.
The amount of work you must have put into preparing these readings astounds me, not to mention the spiritual preparation. They have so much depth and are so readable at the same time. It is wonderful to see how God has kept working in your life over the years. He is so faithful, isn’t He?
    God bless you.
    Regards,
    Ann
