TALK JUST TALK

1 Peter 1:23-25 |

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For ‘all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away. But the Word of the Lord endureth for ever.’ And this is the Word which by the Gospel is preached unto you. KJV |
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God. For, ‘All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of the Lord endures forever.’ And this is the Word that was preached to you. NIV |
Don’t you get the feeling that all most people do these days is talk? Whether it’s on the radio, tv or in newspapers there is no end to the subjects to talk about and no substance to the topics being discussed, with the following issues taking centre stage of the political debate:
| · The financial crisis. | · Violence and drug addiction. |
| · Should there be women priests? | · Gay marriages. |
| · Child abuse. | · Health care. |
Three weeks ago, I watched a panel discussion on TV on the subject of violence in our towns and cities. There was the usual mix of people: A Vicar, a Muslim, a Buddhist and two members of opposing political parties plus the audience, and at the end of the ‘debate’ everyone was left with more questions than answers. This seems to be the case with every one of these so-called discussions where entertainment value sits at the top of the tree, being much more important than the encouragement of good moral values coupled with spiritual guidance, as we would expect from those who purport to lead and govern us. Sadly though, sitting around, talking and sharing ignorance’s seems to be the thing to do these days, leaving most people wondering what value the discussion added and why they bothered watching the programme in the first place.
Thank God we have a place where we can go to for answers to the many problems life throws at us. Yes, the Bible. It is a more sure Word than any of man’s corrupted thoughts and ideas and we would do well to listen to, read from and learn of.

2 Peter 1:19 |

We have also a more sure Word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day of dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts. KJV |
We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. NIV |
There can be little doubt that we live in a dark world that is wracked with violence, evil and so much suffering, and we would be very foolish indeed if we are placing our trust in man to sort out the problems we face, rather than to find out what God has to say. The Bible is the ‘workshop manual of life’ and in it, God tells us that there is a day coming when Jesus will return and put a stop to all of man’s evil deeds.
Are you longing for that day? Are you ready for that day?
